A Metric Tag is a label on a Metric Time Series used to differentiate the metric and describe the measurements. Tags are used to identify individual time series. For example,a metric with the name: "memory_free" could have tags for the Instance ID of the thing being measured and the IaaS provider’s Region where that thing runs: {"instance_id":"i-asd7843198", "region":"us-west-2"}.
