Create dashboards

Learn how you can begin creating dashboards in Observe and configure their visibility.

This page describes the various ways you can create a dashboard in Observe, and also discusses how a dashboards are unlisted by default when first created, meaning that they don't show up in any search results until you change the dashboard's availability.

Where you can create dashboards in Observe

You can create dashboards in Observe in any of the following ways:

  • From the Dashboard Explorer
  • Duplicate or copy an existing dashboard
  • Make changes to any existing dashboard, then save as a new dashboard
  • From any Worksheet or Explorer
  • From o11y AI or AI SRE

From the Dashboard Explorer

Use the New dashboard button on the Dashboard Explorer page:

Duplicate or copy an existing dashboard

Duplicate an existing dashboard, which makes an exact copy of the existing dashboard. You can also copy an existing dashboard, so you can paste it as a new dashboard in any tenant.

Make changes to an existing dashboard

Open an existing dashboard, make some changes, and use the Save as New Dashboard option.

From any Worksheet or Explorer

From any Worksheet or Explorer, use Add to Dashboard or Export to Dashboard and select the Create new dashboard option.

From o11y AI or AI SRE

From o11y AI or AI SRE. You can ask either one a question and get a chart back, which you can then add to a new dashboard.

Update your dashboard's visibility

When you first create a dashboard, they are created in draft mode and are Unlisted, meaning that the new dashboard won't appear in any other user's search results. You must change the dashboard's visibility to Listed in order for other users to be able to find the dashboard.

📘

Note

A dashboard's visibility is not related to access control. An unlisted dashboard can still be accessed by any user who has the link and the appropriate RBAC permissions to view it.

The way to make your dashboard's visibility Listed and available for other users to find depends on if you are viewing or editing the dashboard:

  • If you are editing the dashboard, click Mark as listed:
  • If you are viewing the dashboard, click the vertical ellipsis icon () and select Mark as listed:

To change a dashboard from listed to unlisted, click the vertical ellipsis icon () and select Mark as unlisted. This is the same whether you are viewing or editing the dashboard.
